Reskilling for Roles: Building the BT Cyber Security Team

There simply aren’t enough people with the necessary skills to fill the amount of cyber security jobs available. The ‘cyber skills gap’ is a hot topic in the security industry, and BT’s reskilling programme is a key part of how they’re working to develop the next generation of cyber security professionals.
The scheme is all about opening doors for those who might not have seen an obvious way into a security career, and welcoming people who have different skill sets, backgrounds and ages to create a diverse range of talent across the security team. At #BHAMLive23, Raj Gill, Talent Acquisition Manager at BT, talked us through this scheme and discussed:
  • Breaking down misperceptions of skills needed to work in cyber and focusing on transferable skills and potential
  • Considerations on the unique approach needed to attract and hire into the programme, with a key focus on diverse talent
  • Creating an engaging and inspiring comms strategy via social for awareness and employee advocacy
  • Building out stakeholder engagement and buy-in to ensure success
  • Success stories from participants and next steps
