Partnerships Team Feature – James Morris

The IHR Partnerships Team is unique in so many ways, but what they all have in common is a passion for the recruitment industry. We truly appreciate that it is their special traits and personal stories that drive the success of our team. We aim to share more about the partnerships team at IHR so that you can learn more about us!
We’re excited to feature, James Morris, Snr Partnerships Manager, with a quick-fire interview. He also included some fun photos that best represent him to give a face to the name. Don’t forget to connect with him on LinkedIn!
Tell us a little bit about yourself, starting with where you’re from?

Originally from Essex for the best part of 27 years and spent the last 9+ years working and partying in London. Our city will always hold a special place in my heart. So many good times!

Where do live now?

Recently re-located to the beautiful county of Dorset on the South Coast, specifically Bournemouth. One of the BEST decisions I have ever made. Madly and truly in love with this place. Why did I move? The misses thankfully lives here! I’m a stone’s throw from arguably one of the best coasts in the UK and heritage locations such as the Jurassic Coast and the New Forest.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I’ve always been quite sporty and played an array of sports throughout life such as Football, Cricket, Rugby, Basketball etc but I have recently taken up Golf! It’s a love/hate relationship with A LOT to learn – I’m sure any golfers reading this will know where I’m at right now 🤯🤣 I know I’ll be playing for the rest of my life, I can’t get enough!

Can “visiting restaurants” be a hobby? If so, this is another! My partner and I have done a lot of this around the world and there are some lovely little places in and around Bournemouth. Very multi-cultural, just what I like!

How have you found balance since isolation started and working from home?

It’s been a testing time throughout lockdown as I’m always on the go so adjusting to the confines of my own space has been tough. I generally have a positive outlook on every situation, that’s just who I am but lockdown at one point had me feeling quite deflated. I now know I like structure in terms of setting my day/week and keeping to that. That’s when I flourish the most and have a super productive time!

What motivates you?

I like to do well at whatever I do. I’m a bit of a perfectionist which I’m not sure whether this is a good trait or bad trait. People who know me would say I’m very competitive. Sometimes I take it to heart because it’s just who I am. It’s what drives me, I just like to progress in whatever it may be that’s important to me.

What do you like about working in partnerships?

My incredible clients! Some of the tech they have is just awesome and it’s been an honour to introduce to our community throughout the last five years and help them grow!

I’ve been on the IHR journey from pretty much day dot and I’ve loved every minute of it. Some of our clients are surprised at how small or compact we are as an organisation considering the size and array of events we deliver for the UK In-house recruitment industry. I helped attract vendors (who have been working with us now for the last 5+ years) to our very first London In-house Recruitment Live, which is now a flagship event of ours. It’s a staple event on the calendar for our community.

We’ve had some awesome times over the years and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s around the corner…

What are your favourite IHR events?

Number one has to be the IHRAwards – WHAT A NIGHT! A celebratory evening for all things UK In-house Recruitment with 800+ dinner guests dressed to the nines. Number two is In-house Recruitment Live London – It’s been great to see it grow over the years, an incredible and VERY BUSY day of networking – good times! Hats off to the events team for hosting these large-scale events. They are IHR’s superheroes. It’s tough to pin down number three but I’m going to say our Virtual Events – talk about leading the way an innovation! We have been able to continue “the conversation” throughout lockdown which is has been extremely valuable for the IHR community and our clients. They’re super interactive and the content, well, that’s always HOT!

What are you most looking forward to in 2020?

If and when we can reach international markets. Watch this space….

What do you hope to come in Q3

Continuing to adapt and progress through this “new normal” that we now live in along with building on the success of our already popular digital/virtual events 😊
