‘Making The Most Out Of Recruitment, Career Fairs & Job Shows’, held at the fantastic London Job Show, was a complete and utter success. First and foremost, it was incredibly rewarding, as events organisers, to see that everyone turned up early and all were genuinely eager to instantly begin networking and sharing their experiences!
This was a unique event, primarily for the fact that it was held in the management suite above the London Job Show, as it was unfolding LIVE! Not only were we lucky to have the organisers of the London Job Show with us for the morning, JS Media, but it also gave our in-house recruiters the chance to experience a job show first-hand.
Our special guest speaker, Richard Hutchinson, Head of Sourcing at Capita Resourcing, kicked off the morning’s discussions with a hugely engaging presentation on using job shows for recruitment and the strategy behind it! Capita Resourcing is known as an innovative market leader in candidate sourcing. With Richard leading that function for them, there was no better person to discuss the advantages of attending job shows and the secrets to job show recruitment success.
During the interactive roundtables, we discovered that the main motivations for in-house recruiters attending careers events were as follows:
- Brand awareness
- Engaging with candidates face-to-face
- Changing brand perceptions
- Access to volume of candidates
- To sell your culture
Job shows are an effective way to engage with candidates. Mike Bickerdike, Event Director of The London Job Show, spoke to us of the real advantages employers experience from the likes of job shows and careers events. One very interesting point Mike made, was that many employers had made hires from job shows, to candidates who’s CV’s they wouldn’t look at twice but who’s fit and experience on a face-to-face level were perfect! Job shows are a unique opportunity to meet candidates in a relaxed environment, and discover talent that can’t be expressed through words on a CV.
