In the second part of this blog series Richard Turrell – Head of Marketing at First Choice Software, interviews Becky McVittie – Resourcing Specialist at RWE npower and part of the team that won the Recruitment Innovation award.

 

What is the most important attribute of an In-house recruiter?  

In my experience it’s about being able to build strong relationships. Any type of best practice recruitment needs to be sold to your stakeholders/hiring managers and if you have managed to build strong relationships it makes influencing them much easier.

What is the best thing about working for RWE npower?

There are lots of good things about working for npower. I think one thing, for me personally, is that the work is very flexible and varied. I spend a lot of my days travelling to different offices, seeing different people and working on a range of projects which I really enjoy. I’m also given a lot of support from my manager in terms of learning and development which I really appreciate.

What has been your biggest personal achievement in 2014?

At the beginning of 2014 I was put in charge of managing a very large internal recruitment campaign. This was an extremely fast paced piece of work, but also very sensitive as the campaign was the result of a restructure. The project gave me a chance to project manage a large team, to work with multiple senior managers and to deliver to very tight timescales. It was a rewarding experience, and one that as a team we managed to achieve very well.

After what sounds like a very successful 2014 what do you expect to be your biggest personal challenge in 2015?

I’ve recently been made responsible for the graduate recruitment, which is of particular interest as a product of the scheme myself. In addition, I am also now managing a direct report which is something that I have not done before but thoroughly looking forward to.

Finally… what has been your main candidate acquisition source in 2014 and do you see this changing in 2015?

In 2014 our own career site http://www.npowerjobs.com has been highly successful, as well as LinkedIn and Indeed. We still expect this to be the case in 2015.
