In our fourth speaker Q&A instalment, we spoke with two industry leaders, David Yates, Resourcing Team Manager for trainee talent at Grant Thornton LLP and Trevor Pinder, Founder of Junction 9 to find out the key discussion topics they will be sharing at the event and what speaking at In-house Recruitment LIVE! means to them.

David is the Resourcing Team Manager for trainee talent at Grant Thornton UK LLP and will focus his presentation on “The Power of Communities” a topic David and his team have excelled in over the past 12 months which led to industry wide recognition when Grant Thornton won the Best Candidate Experience category at last year’s In-house Recruitment Awards.

Trevor Pinder, Founder, Junction 9 has extensive experience within the world of recruitment. He has worked within start up’s, SME’s and some of the largest staffing agencies in the world. As well as being a career recruiter, he has delivered sales training in multiple environments and countries. Trevor will be discussing “How Does The Relationship Between Talent Acquisition and Agencies Look in the Future?” at this year’s event.

Q1. What does it mean to be a part of the In-house Recruitment LIVE! 2017 speaker line-up?

David: It’s a great honour to be asked back to speak. The In-House Recruitment events are always an awesome experience, and each time I’ve attended I’ve taken such valuable insight away with me. I’m excited to be sharing our story.

Trevor: It means a lot. This is a big prestigious event. Any opportunity that you get to address your peers should be highly regarded

Q2. What are you most looking forward to sharing with your peers from your presentation? Can you give us any teaser stats, facts or insight?

David: We’ve seen first-hand just how powerful communities can be and the impact they have on candidate and new joiner experience. Just a few highlights – we’ve see a massive reduction in decline and renege rates (this season alone they are down 59% and 18% respectively), a higher conversion rate at assessment day (from 40% to 58%) and we see far more connected and networked colleagues ready for day one. They have also contributed to £0.5m in direct and indirect recruitment savings.

Trevor: I am going to turn into recruitment’s answer to Charles Dickens.

Q3. How has the shape of recruitment transformed over the past few years? What’s caused this shift away from conventional recruitment strategies and processes?

Trevor: I believe that recruitment has changed more in the last two years than in the 20 before that. From an agency perspective, the initial engagement with a new customer is now almost exclusively digital.

Q4. What do you regard as industry success? What types of stories inspire you?

David: I love hearing stories about great candidate experience – when it’s made easier and simpler. And I think the Glassdoor / Wiki job revolution is making a huge impact.

Trevor: I will let you know about success when I get there. Whenever I see a consultant make their first placement. This has always inspired me. When I lose that feeling I think it will time for me to give up!

Q5. What do you think is the next big thing in Recruitment?

David: I think technology offering a more personal candidate experience is starting to take off. Like programmatic advertising and chat-bots that answer in real time, utilising AI

Q6. What advice would you give to anyone deciding whether or not to come along to LIVE! 2017?
