Up for the Recruitment Innovation award (as well as Best Team and Graduate Recruitment) at the In-House Recruitment Awards, we spoke with Joanne Lee, Head of Recruitment at CAPCO to learn what they have been doing to separate themselves from the growing competition.

This year, through a dedicated programme, CAPCO have hired 18 ex-military professionals. The implementation of this process has been very successful for CAPCO and something they are going to continue to support. Joanne’s team have run CV workshops and information days for potential candidates to attend and learn more about the company before even applying for the roles available.

Capco has always viewed those with a military background as strong candidates for consulting careers because of their extensive leadership credentials and experience of overcoming complex challenges under pressure.  Joanne and the wider military team have developed a structured program to help military people make the transition into Financial Services through industry training and an exceptional mentoring program.  Our clients have consistently provided strong feedback on our ex-military people and we plan to expand the scheme further next year.

In terms of their wider recruitment, Joanne’s team are very focused on improving processes to keep up with the busy and every-growing demands of the business and have focused intently on candidate experience, starting in the area of graduate recruitment where video interviewing has landed effectively. Since CAPCO consults with clients on customer experience (and candidates behave just like customers), Joanne’s team have made use of internal expertise and applied their findings to improving the candidate journey. CAPCO is always committed to improving the transparency of communications between hiring managers, recruitment professionals and the candidate.

Joanne’s recruitment team are relatively new to the business and she is impressed with how they have adapted to their roles and their ability to deliver 91% direct sourcing. CAPCO is a fast paced and evolving environment with increasing stakeholder demand that varies the roles they are recruiting for.  It is important to Joanne and her team that they continue to partner with the business to build on their reputation and credibility.
